Resumen

FERRARI, Sonia Campaner Miguel. Colonial enlightenment: Nature and the indians in Basilio da Gama’s poem, “O Uraguai”. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2018, vol.32, n.64, pp.287-310.  Epub 20-Sep-2020. ISSN 1982-596X.  https://doi.org/10.14393/revedfil.issn.0102-6801.v32n64a2018-14.

Written in the XVIIIth century, the poem Uraguai of Basílio da Gama has been considered an allegorical homage to Marquis of Pombal and his illuminist politics. We present here some interpretations of the poem and also point other possibilities of interpretations due to the particularities and ambiguities of the Portuguese illuminist project, and using nature and Indians, elements considered accessories by the tradition.

Palabras clave : Illuminism; Colonialism; Allegory; Nature; Indian; Epopee.
