Abstract

LIMA NETO, Avelino Aldo de  and  ARAUJO, Hugo Filgueiras de. Beyond the beautiful body: notes on body and education from the foucault’s reading of the Alcibiadis. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2018, vol.32, n.64, pp.361-383.  Epub Sep 20, 2020. ISSN 1982-596X.  https://doi.org/10.14393/revedfil.issn.0102-6801.v32n64a2018-17.

This paper aims to present some contributions of the Foucaultian reading of Plato's Alcibiades to think about the relationship between the body and education. We focus on Foucault's discussion of self-care. We explore the lost connection between subjectivity and knowledge, that we can find in the Socratic-Platonic philosophy. At first we expose characteristics of the relationship between Alcibiades and Socrates; Later, the relations between education, spirituality and eroticism highlighted by Foucault in his reading of Alcibiades. Finally, we have drawn some implications for thinking about the educational phenomenon nowadays, especially regarding the recovery of the body as a locus in which subjectivation takes place.

Keywords : Self-care; Alcibiades; Socrates; Body; Education.
