This article intends to examine, within the History of Medicine, the conditions that enabled Rousseau to conceive the child model described in Émile. The aim is to show that the intelligibility schemes of Rousseau’s Pedagogy can be understood in the framework of Enlightenment’s Medical debates about infant body caring.
