Abstract

Althoug they belong to diferent centuries, Friedrich Schiller and Hannah Arendt make diagnosis of their own time, outline characteristics about our human condition and identify themselves as intellectuals borrower of Immanuel Kant. Trought his work Letters on the Aesthetical Education of Man, Schiller sees in the art the way out for spiritual and political decadence and Arendt, in her essay Politics and Culture identifies the relations betwenn art, culture and politics. To investigate the similarities as well the differences between both thinkers constitues the aim of this article. Firstly we inquire the perception of both authors about the animal human condition and the need to it transgress. In the second one, we will investigate if there is, in the work of Arendt a correspondente to the “play driver” of Schiller and, finally we will focus on showing the Kantian foundations that permeate the work of both.
