The purpose of this article is to deepen the understanding of the categories of analysis proposed by the history of intellectuals drawing on historian Jean-François Sirinelli’s propositions, aiming to discuss their appropriation in researches carried out on History of Education in Brazil. The first part presents the categories of intellectual itinerary, sociability network, and intellectual generation in relation to the concept of political culture. The second part presents a reflection on the specificities of the Brazilian historical process that require attention so that there is an adequate use of the methodological arsenal in the research on history of education in Brazil.
