This research aims to analyze how the initial training experiences in Physical Education of students at Universidade Federal do Paraná contribute to the construction of professional identity(ies). Data were produced through focus groups; one with students of the licentiate degree and the other with students of the bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. The Content Analysis Program Atlas.TI 8 was used to create a unit of analysis from a previously-defined axis on initial training. It was identified, through their experiences on the practical training placement and work, and through research programs and projects, as well as reflecting, constituting, planning, creating, and elaborating their teaching and learning methods and methodologies, build mixed professional identities that are not fully articulated with the processes of research and creation of methods and methodologies.
