Abstract

FREITAS, Michelle Gomes; SALES, Zenilda Nogueira  and  MOREIRA, Ramon Missias. Representations of visually impaired students about physical education classes. Rev. Elet. Educ. [online]. 2016, vol.10, n.1, pp.100-109. ISSN 1982-7199.  https://doi.org/10.14244/198271991191.

This study aimed to analyze the perception of students with visual disabilities enrolled in regular education on Physical Education classes. This is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study conducted in the Association of the Blind of the municipality of Jequie (Ajece). A semi-structured interview was applied to five students with visual impairments enrolled in the regular education system of Jequie and assisted by the Ajece. Three categories were found after content analysis: activities developed during Physical Education classes, students’ interest in sports as part of Physical Education, and physical activity in other areas. All surveyed students stated that, despite their interest, unfortunately they did not attend Physical Education classes due to lack of specific methodologies, such as teaching methods and physical, sporting and recreational activities adapted to the visually impaired.
