This essay proposes to analyze, in dialogue with fragments of the book Negative Dialectics, by Theodor Adorno, contemporary tensions and phenomena related to the problematic of technology and violence. In this respect, we initially use the aphorism “Suffering Physical” and items I and II of “Meditations on Metaphysics” to reflect on two realities of extreme violence in this globalized world: wars and refugees; and, later, based on the conception of the “fall of Metaphysics” and its encounter with the marginalized and the repressed, we intend to question the conservative and authoritarian events present in our country today: the commodification of higher education; public-private partnerships in primary and secondary school education; the educational proposal of the mega-entrepreneur and new mayor of São Paulo. The final reflections of the essay are that the categories Bildung (formation), autonomy, emancipation - key concepts of the Critical Theory of Society - come down from the heights and observe, with firmness and critical commitment, the pain and the suffering that devastate the victims of wars and those who seek refuge in other countries, as well as the social and educational reality of the poor ones, the children and young people of our country.
