Abstract

RAMOS, Wilsa Maria  and  ROSSATO, Maristela. Democratizing access to knowledge and the challenges of social reconfiguration for students and teachers. Rev. Elet. Educ. [online]. 2017, vol.11, n.3, pp.1034-1048. ISSN 1982-7199.  https://doi.org/10.14244/198271991906.

The use of the internet and social media has become a tool for building social relations, implying new forms of learning and democratization of access to knowledge. The article aims to reflect on the democratization of access to knowledge and the challenges imposed by social reconfiguration from the intensive use of the internet. It also aims to problematize the use of the web for the learning and human development of students and teachers of higher education in the 21st Century. The moment of changes in social and educational processes is conducive to proposed critical reflection although it is not intended to exhaust the discussion. Social reconfigurations run parallel to the democratization of access to knowledge. Access to knowledge is not enough for itself: it must be at the service of learning and development of individuals through pedagogical practices. In the educational process, the rupture of the legacy of the traditional school and the opening of the campus of cement and concrete for the virtual campus, will favor the integration of academic community with other virtual communities, open for the democratic exercise of other practices and forms of teacher’s communication.
