This work is an interview with Lia Faria on the management of Maria Yedda Linhares as municipal secretary of education (1983-1986), a historical moment, in the middle of the Military Dictatorship, in which democratic education policies were sought in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Lia Faria is a Post-doctorate in Education and Political Science, coordinator of the Education and Republic Laboratory and a professor of the Graduate Program in Education of the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Lia Faria, in the 1980s, was a History teacher from the state of Rio de Janeiro and participated actively in the training of teachers of the I Special Education Program. As a researcher, she works with teaching memories for the republican school, in particular the educational thinking produced by the policies carried out by the governments of Rio de Janeiro between 1975 and 1987, which includes full-time schools. For her part, Maria Yedda was the first female professor in Brazil. During the military dictatorship she was exiled in France. As municipal secretary of education, Yedda coordinated the implementation of the Integrated Centers of Public Education as a full-time Republican school.
