Teachers usually attribute poor school performances from children of lower economic classes to parents’ disinterest. The objective of this research was to identify the presence or absence of different parental educational activities related to school performance. We interviewed 20 parents of students of high and poor school performance from a public school in the periphery of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Results demonstrated no significant differences in the investigated aspects: supervision of educational activities, value given to education and priority to school homework. We also noted the existence of high and poor school performance among siblings. We conclude that high or poor student performance does not reflect family interest in the school success of their children.
