ROSA, Chaiane de Medeiros. Development of higher education in the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology in the state of Goiás, Brazil. Rev. Elet. Educ. [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.3, pp.825-835. ISSN 1982-7199.  https://doi.org/10.14244/198271992135.

In 2008, through the Law nº 11,892, the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education was created, consisting of: Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology; Federal Technological University of Paraná; Celso Suckow da Fonseca and Minas Gerais Federal Technology Education Centers; Technical Schools linked to Federal Universities; and Pedro II College. The Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology, one of the components of the network, configured as institutions of higher education, basic and professional, pluricurricular and multicampi, specialized in the offer of professional and technological education in the different modalities of education. This article aims to demonstrate the panorama of higher education in Goiás (Brazil), focusing on the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology of the state, namely: the Goiano Federal Institute and the Federal Institute of Goiás. For such, a documentary research was developed, based on official documents, such as federal legislation; data provided by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics and the Educational Institute of Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira; and data from the Federal Institutes investigated. As a result, these institutions emerged as a viable proposal to reduce educational inequalities in the country, given their capillarity in Brazil, and also to promote education in a way that is linked to regional potentialities. The Federal Institutes thus contribute to integrate socially disadvantaged plots, especially those living in locations far from the major centers, providing them with access to vertical education.
