Abstract

FELIPPE, Jonis Manhães Sales. Socioeconomic profile of applicants and attended students by student assistance at the Instituto Federal Fluminense Campos-Centro. Rev. Elet. Educ. [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.3, pp.852-866. ISSN 1982-7199.  https://doi.org/10.14244/198271992341.

This article presents the results of a quantitative research on the profile of students enrolled and selected in the selective processes for student assistance at the Instituto Federal Fluminense Campos-Centro, Brazil, in the years 2015 and 2016. The information on the questionnaires was systematized, analyzed and compared, among which: per capita income, occupational insertion of household responsibles, composition and work capacity of the family, race, school of origin of the students, education of the responsible and situations with impact on income. After the presentation, these data are discussed in view of recent academic productions about social policies and national data on poverty and unemployment, which signals the process of worsening of living conditions of students in parallel to the increase in demand and to the focalization of services to increasingly poor publics. More than the portrait of a particular situation, it is intended to provide, through this work, subsidies for the refinement of the effectiveness of student assistance from the necessary debate about its Importance and scope.
