This study sought to describe how teachers feel in relation to the beliefs and social values ​​related to the teaching profession in in prison unit schools and how this image attributed by the other can influence the way in which the teacher constitutes their self-image. The research had the voluntary participation of five teachers of school education from a prison institution and a complementary interview with the school principal. In addition, the following data collection instruments were used: open interviews, and records in a field diary. The results suggest that the feeling of being devalued, ignored due to anonymity, misunderstood and even discriminated against by society in general is frequently part of the identity of these teachers.
