GUIDO, Humberto. The social history of the child: subsidies for historical research of childhood (1530-1599). Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.2, pp.599-618. Epub 06-Dez-2015. ISSN 1982-7806. https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v14n2-2015-599.
This paper is a exposition of a research situated at the confluence of philosophy and history, specifically of modern philosophy and social history, this statement does not constitute mere chronological definition of a period, the time frame indicates a moment when the feeling childhood emerged in Western society: the bourgeois and capitalist Europe. Not always in the childhood history this convergence is properly exploited, however, is undeniable the junction of bourgeois society and capitalist economy on the one hand, and of the child and their education on the other. There is a parallel path that began in the Renaissance humanism and culminated in the compulsory state public education achieved in the late nineteenth century and which became effective in the twentieth century. The discussion stops at the beginning of this process, when childhood and school not yet formed an unbreakable unity, therefore, at first analyzes the contribution of Erasmus of Rotterdam to the education of the child, later, shows the process of expanding schools through the educational work of the Jesuits.
