In this study, we analyze aspects of the historiography of education and the arguments which support the diagnostics made and proposed models from the reference to provincial experiences between Latin American world and the Provinces of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, based on production Primitivo Moacyr (1867-1942). Since independence, the situation in Brazil in the con- text of Latin America disagreed when compared to the installation of a monarchy as opposed to republics in the Spanish America. Many voices were present in order to sign the Brazil among the nations predestined to the republic. Moacyr reveals a scenario of shortage in the field of public education in the Brazilian provinces, despite the amount of resources targeted; tensions about the teaching methods and creation of schools for teacher trainingand and absolute silence about the realities of neighboring countries.
