Abstract

ROMANO, Antonio. Escola Nova (New School) and Secondary Education in Uruguay (1939-1963). Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.2, pp.468-491. ISSN 1982-7806.  https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v15n2-2016-2.

The current article aims to analise the relationship between the self-named “new education” movement and the changes implemented in secondary education in Uruguay for about two decades. During that period, we could identify proposals of approach to the new teaching methods by some actors from that educational stage. Our entry point will be 1939, when it was first published a journal that flew the flag of educational reform for secondary school and progressive pedagogy. We finish this article studying the implementation of the pilot plan for secondary education in 1963, in which the influence of ideas and proposals discussed in the previous decades can be tracked.

Keywords : New Education; Secondary Education; Educational Reforms.
