Abstract

MUNDIM, Maria Odete Pereira; CARVALHO, Carlos Henrique de  and  GATTI JUNIOR, Décio. The Américo Renê Giannetti Vocational School and industrial training in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil (1962-1982). Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.2, pp.559-581. This study is an analysis of the process of establishment and operation of the Industrial Training Vocational School of Uberlandia (Escola Vocacional de Aprendizagem Industrial de Uberlândia), later called Américo Renê Giannetti, in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in the period from 1962 to 1982. An attempt was made to understand the specific situation in national, state, and local terms that preceded and that motivated the establishment of this institution at a time of government policies directed to Brazilian development. In this scenario of industrialization, the demand for qualified labor increased, a situation which would lead the business sector to request the public sector to create professional training schools. Under these conditions, the Américo Renê Giannetti Vocational School was established and operated in Uberlandia, here highlighting the following aspects: establishment, pedagogical proposal, operation, student body, and the decharacterization it underwent in the 1980s.
