The Ginásios Vocacionais were school units created in the state of São Paulo between 1961 and 1970. This article is part of a research that aims to profound understanding of how the process of conception and implementation of these schools, based on the appropriation of New School references - especially intellectual production of John Dewey - who contributed to the development of a new concept of experimental education in Brazil. In this sense, it dialogues with authors who investigated the relationship of the Ginásios with so-called Classes Experimentais, formally created by the Ministry of Education in 1958.
