Abstract

OTTO, Claricia  and  KANTOVITZ, Geane. Memories of the Sisters Catechists about their teaching practices (Santa Catarina, Brazil, 1930 -1960). Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.3, pp.980-1005. ISSN 1982-7806.  https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v15n3-2016-5.

This article presents research results on the teaching action of religious of the current Congregation of Sisters Catechists Franciscans (CICAF), at primary schools of Santa Catarina, in the period between 1930 and 1960. It has as primary source the memoirs of ten religious of the congregation, which are now retired teachers, aged between 77 and 94 years. Having an active relationship with the past, the memories are understood from the perspective of collective memory, according to Halbwachs (2003). Therefore, they are individual versions loaded from a collective experience and a vision of education, made possible at a certain time. The analysis allows to highlight aspects of daily school life, of that period of time, and to infer that those teachers had a fundamental role in the constitution of a school culture, especially regarding the relationship with the Catholic religion in the secular school.
