Abstract

WEIDUSCHADT, Patrícia  and  AMARAL, Giana Lange do. School memories: Stories from lay teachers within the rural context of ethnic shools in the city of Pelotas, RS (1940-1960). Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.3, pp.1006-1030. ISSN 1982-7806.  https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v15n3-2016-6.

This paper discusses stories from lay teachers who performed in individual and multigrade schools from the 1940s to the 1960s in the city of Pelotas, RS. It is important to emphasise that at that time several schools were fulfilled with lay teachers, that is, teachers who did not have pedagogical training. The analysis has been made from four interviews made for different purposes, which held common indicators: the teachers belonged to Pomeranian-German communities as well as Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Ethnic and Religious belonging is analysed and presented as the training demarcation of these teachers, which legitimises the professional performance by the communities within the context, justifying their attendance at those schools. Likewise, it guides the educational practices interweaving with religiosity and nationalist ideology. In this sense, the concepts of memory and identity tried to question the stories, considering they are built collectively and reworked nowadays.
