Abstract

This study focuses on the history of a school established in Uberaba, Minas Gerais State, in 1916, aiming to train workers for plantations. The text presents historical aspects of the institution in association with public policies for this type of education. Its sources include messages from state governors and a piece of news published in local press. The gathering, analysis and interpretation of these sources were articulated in a dialogue between local reality and wider spaces and temporalities. Although it approaches a specific institution, this study seeks to dialogue with other researches that address similar issues aiming to help writing the history of schools for professional training in Minas Gerais state.
