This paper proposes to think the emergence of a novelty in Latin American education nineteenth century whose consequences go far. This article is based on the figure of the teacher Simón Rodríguez. More specifically in a problematic figure of his biography. His madness. The various works devoted to the master's work are torn between claims related to madness and genius of the author. This article analyzes both perspectives in light of the nosography of the time in relation to paranoia and takes a position on the historiographical debate supported in existing documents. Based on this analysis the radicality and originality of the master's work is studied and the ongoing consequences of it are insinuated.
