Abstract

COELHO, Patrícia. The educational use of radio for the improvement of understanding among nations (1919-1939). Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2017, vol.16, n.2, pp.539-553. ISSN 1982-7806.  https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v16n2-2017-13.

This manuscript focuses on the actions taken by pioneers of Brazilian radio education for the sake of peace within the period between the two World Wars. Since 1930, the International Radiobroadcasting Union, an association with seat in Geneva that gathered radio stations from several European and American countries, carried out many inquiries worldwide on the activities developed by the stations, in an attempt to disseminate harmonious thoughts and feelings among nations. The purpose of this study consists in the analysis of strategies used by Brazilian radio educators to improve a closer relationship between people from different countries. This work shall particularly examine the show called “Tapete Mágico da Tia Lúcia”, which was conceived by Ilka Labarthe in the light of international guidelines on the cult of pacifism, and irradiated by Rádio Escola Municipal since 1934, as well as by different stations up to the end of the 1940s.
