Current article, a section of an on-going doctoral research in the Post-graduate Program in Education of the State University of Maringá, Maringá, Brazil, provides the state-of-the-art on the educational ideal of Simón Bolívar in Brazil. Survey of the scientific productions on the issue was undertaken at the data sites of theses and dissertations in Brazil and of the most disseminated journals in the field of the History of Education. A book with 184 documental sources in which Bolívar deals with the themes of education and culture was also researched. The data triggered considerations on the state-of-the art on this theme in Brazil.
