Abstract

SILVA, Mariluce Viotti  and  GATTI, Giseli Cristina do Vale. History and Educational Memory. The Maestro Josino de Oliveira State School of Frutal, Minas Gerais, Brazil (1965-1976). Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2017, vol.16, n.3, pp.801-817. ISSN 1982-7806.  https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v16n3-2017-15.

This paper presents results of investigation within the History of School Institutions, specifically concerning the Maestro Josino de Oliveira State School (Escola Estadual Maestro Josino de Oliveira), a secondary school in Frutal, Minas Gerais, Brazil, from the time it was legally established in 1965 and its initial operation over the first ten years, from 1966 to 1976. Theoretical references for this study were mainly taken from the ideas of Silva (1969), Magalhães (1996), Gatti Jr. (2002), Saviani (2005), and Nosella and Buffa (2009). In methodological terms, research was bibliographical and documental, with use of diverse sources, such as legislation, regulations, procedures, minutes of meetings, news reports at that time, etc. Sources included the school’s own archives and records and those of the Public Archives of the Frutal Municipal Office of Culture. Results show that in the beginning, the school predominantly served farm workers’ children, but after ten years of operation, children of landowners and businesspersons predominated, though children from parents of humbler origins remained. In all cases and throughout the period, an effort was made to maintain conditions or even rise in cultural, social, and economic terms.
