Abstract

BASTOS, Patricia Gonçalves  and  TAVARES, Maria Tereza Goudard. Childhood education and the (post) pandemic city: why enroll children in the city?. Rev. Reflex [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.3, pp.41-58.  Epub Dec 03, 2024. ISSN 1982-9949.  https://doi.org/10.17058/rea.v31i3.18084.

This article is the result of research that we have been carrying out within the scope of a broader project, which aims to investigate territorial components of educational processes of children in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro (RMRJ), more specifically, in the city of Niterói, as well as the production of conditions of Educability (Freire, 1996) of children from urban popular classes in different educational networks at the investigated region. In this perspective, the theme of childhood and the city has been studied by us in dialogue with Bourdieu's theory of fields (2007), inviting us to think about intersections with the Social Studies of Childhood and the field of Popular Education (Tavares, 2015). Our objective is to seek arguments to provoke displacements on the conceptual, political and pedagogical aspects of early childhood education, which can break with the mostly schoolish character of the children education, investigating those children and inserting them in the daily life of the city where they live and should grow up with dignity and access to their fundamental rights (Santos, 1996).

Keywords : Childhoods; Right to the city; Educational processes; Urban peripheries.
