Abstract

GARCIA-RUBIO, Juan  and  PONCE, Roberto Sanz. The need for a mandated curriculum to ensure the Right to Education. Ensino em Re-Vista [online]. 2019, vol.26, n.spe, pp.1013-1033.  Epub Oct 10, 2023. ISSN 1983-1730.  https://doi.org/10.14393/er-v26nea2019-3.

This paper discusses the importance of the mandated curriculum as safeguard of education quality and therefore of the right to education. This right, which is recognized in a large number of international and national treaties, is of a great importance both for the individual and for society but it is carried out differently in each country depending on its socio-economic, political and cultural contexts. From an overall perspective of this right, a quality education is required, so that every student acquires some basic learning. Not all of mandated curricula are able to ensure the right to education, because some of them do not present basic and essential learning. We propose to include a basic curriculum in every mandated curriculum as a useful tool to ensure the right to education for every learner.

Keywords : Right to Education; Education quality; Differentiated curriculum; Common curriculum; Basic knowledge.
