The historical-cultural paradigm and the theory of activity represent a theoretical-methodological model to carry out educational research. This approach offers a dialectical and dynamic vision of the child's development process and the role of education at its various levels. The fundamental method of research of this approach is the formative experiment, which was called genetic-experimental by Vigotsky himself, as well as the educational evaluation that can be carried out from the structural analysis of the activity. This article analyzes the advances obtained in educational research applied to the participants of preschool age, school age and adults. The investigations were carried out as doctoral thesis projects, their results were presented in papers, articles and book chapters. The original contributions are discussed from this theoretical-methodological model.
