In this article, we show theoretical bases and practical orientations, with the objective of contributing to the advancement of professionalisation of Hospital Education. We frame it in a wide concept of Hospital Pedagogy, which areas of action are conceived as a part of an inclusive and high-quality educational system. We analyse the concepts of professionality and the education professionals’ professional development, for its application in the hospital context, as key elements to define its own identity. We define the competencies profile of this profession through the functions and competencies delimitation, giving as an example the development of responsibility competency. This frame can be used as a base for professionals’ training and, at the same time, be a key for the competent exercise of the profession. From this analysis, we emphasise the importance of training from a teaching-learning approach based on professional competencies.
