Abstract

REZENDE, Flavia; QUEIROZ, Gloria  and  FERRAZ, Gleice. Goals of education from the perspective of natural sciences’ teachers. Ens. Pesqui. Educ. Ciênc. [online]. 2011, vol.13, n.1, pp.13-27. ISSN 1983-2117.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1983-2117201113113.

The debate on the contributions of Science Education to the community interests led us to investigate Science teachers’ discourse on the goals of Education and its relationship with social reality. We analyzed the utterances of 27 teachers (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) and when the answers mentioned social reality we observed the relation between these answers, the respondent’s disciplinary background and Continued Education. Less than half of the teachers indicated goals related to social reality. The majority emphasized the individual or the natural reality in their teaching goals. Academic context of Continued Education seems to have influenced teachers’ social preoccupation. The results point to the necessity to use the best efforts in Science teachers’ Education in the sense of favoring the approach to social problems.

Keywords : Educational Goals; Science Education; Discourse Analysis.
