Abstract

CORREIA, Marisa Monteiro. FUTURE TEACHERS' CONCEPTIONS ON ENVIRONMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND TEACHING STRATEGIES. Ens. Pesqui. Educ. Ciênc. [online]. 2014, vol.16, n.1, pp.15-30. ISSN 1983-2117.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1983-21172014160102.

This study aims to identify the concepts of future teachers of elementary education about environmental education. It also aims to analyze the relationship between conceptions and teaching strategies teachers demonstrate to value the most. The thirty-two participants were attending a training course for teachers in Portugal. In the data analysis, the method of constant questioning and comparing was used until the saturation of the categories. The analysis of questionnaires shows that all participants have an anthropocentric perspective of the environment and a traditional conception of environmental education, based on knowledge of environmental issues and preservation of resources. The teaching methodologies highlighted by the interviewed are in accordance with an education centered in the figure of the teacher and in the acquisition of knowledge.
