Socio-environmental issues are a main constant concern in our contemporary time, including in the field of science education. We aimed to apprehend the readings of photographic images of students in undergraduate school (Physics and Biology) concerning socio-environmental issues in the metropolitan region of the city of Belém. We also propose to identify and discuss the possibilities of photographic use in science education, as perceived by the students. We chose a qualitative approach in the context of an action research. When photographing the local socio-environmental context, students faced the changes that were taken place there. When being requested to write about what they had photographed, the students were able to construct the meanings of those scenes and landscapes in a interlacing of critical views.

Keywords : Socio-environmental Issues; Photography; Science Education.
