Abstract

PINHAO, Francine  and  MARTINS, Isabel. CITIZENSHIP AND SCIENCE EDUCATION: DEBATING ISSUES. Ens. Pesqui. Educ. Ciênc. [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.3, pp.9-29. ISSN 1983-2117.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1983-21172016180301.

This paper discusses the relationship between science education and citizenship. This theme's choice is justified by the fact that educational policies, guidelines and parameters currently bring training for citizenship to the debate's core without, however, clarify this concept. The text explores citizenship's concept with three main focuses: (i) citizenship's critique in classical liberalism; (ii) citizenship's meanings in different political models; (iii) citizenship's meanings for science education in Brazilian educational policies since the 1930. Finally, we raise issues to rethink this binomial and deconstruct the linear relationship between science learning and citizenship.
