This paper aims to provide an overview of how aspects related to “Educação do Campo” [Education for and by the countryside] have been explored in the literature, particularly in Science and Mathematics Teaching. A literature review was carried out in event records and Brazilian journals. First, it was identified the nature of the paper and the educational level they were dealing with. Then, the analysis of selected studies was centered on the following focuses: Relationship with school; Theoretical and methodological assumptions; Relationship with context; Relationship with the scientific knowledge. From that, it is pointed out the diversity of theoretical and methodological perspectives in discussion, which also involves different ways of understanding the role of the school, the relationship with the countryside context and the role of scientific conceptualization.
