One investigates the planning and purposes of using scientific communication materials in classrooms. For this, we have analyzed four hundred didactic sequences produced by Science teachers in a long term specialization course offered to teachers of public teaching system of the state of São Paulo. Therefore, we follow a qualitative-quantitative approach. The analyzes pointed out eight distinct purposes of using scientific communication in the classroom and they also outlined the communication tools as the supports most used by teachers.
