Aiming to analyze the conceptions and teaching knowledge of the Botany teachers in the teacher training in Biological Sciences, we conducted a focus group in a public university in Rio de Janeiro, whose analysis culminated in the organization of results and discussions in three thematic units: Social function of the university, Teacher training and Teaching Botany; which are summarized in objectives more directed to the formation of the biologist, with emphasis on scientific knowledge little related to the pedagogical knowledge and the school practice. This is reflected in the lack of interest of the future teachers in Phytology, also favoring symptoms of Botany Blindness in elementary school. From this, there is a need for dialogue between university and school, and the valuation of pedagogical approaches in the degree that favor the appreciation for the learning of Botany.
