In this research, we analyzed the understandings about Nature of Science of pre-service chemistry teacher from her reflections on a historical case study expressed in her portfolio. The case study deals with the history of ammonia synthesis on an industrial scale and its approach took place in the context of an initial teacher training course on Nature of Science. Discursive textual analysis was the methodology used to analyze the texts in the portfolio. The results of this research show a contextualized understanding of different aspects of Nature of Science by the pre-service teacher. This suggests the potential to combine historical case studies and portfolios in the initial training of science teachers to provide moments of reflection on Nature of Science.
