Abstract

HENNING, Paula Corrêa; VIEIRA, Virgínia Tavares  and  HENNING, Clarissa Corrêa. Environmental crisis, consumerism and cultural artifactis: instigation for contemporany times. Eccos Rev. Cient. [online]. 2018, n.45, pp.209-220.  Epub June 07, 2019. ISSN 1983-9278.  https://doi.org/10.5585/eccos.n45.7412.

This paper describes a research focused on articulating Environmental Education and media studies. By studying some of these discourses we are able to understand that the media starts a relation of power process by fabricating truths, producing meanings and shaping people. We highlight the strong mediatic appeal in the constitution of contemporaneous individuals concerned about human life on our planet. In face of this contemporaneous scenario, we specifically problematize the field of environmental education and discuss some fragments of mediatic discourses which engender ecological subjects. In this text we approach two profoundly divergent discourses - one about the environmental crisis and the other about the permanent encouragement to consumerism. We also question the apocalyptic discourses about the end of the world because of the misuse of natural resources. As a conclusion, the reader is challenged into reflecting about the importance of those sayings in our lives.
