The aim of this paper is to explain the conception of quality concept built (and used) of private Higher Education Institutions. The object of this research is the periodical Revista Ensino Superior of the Union of Maintainers of Higher Education Institutions in São Paulo State (SEMESP), specifically the publications dated between 2000 and 2010, and it demonstrates, by analyzing qualitative the published articles, the quality oncept the models that the periodical uses in the construction of its discourses. It was concluded that, according to the perspective of the periodical, quality means achieving good scores in tests and a good position in rankings; the path to quality would be having good professors, management, teaching methodology, student selection, and updated courses in line with the market. As reported by the Periodical, the poor quality of private Institutions is explained by the cultural limitation of their students.
