Taking as a reference the impacts that the evaluations carried out by CAPES have had on the dynamics of postgraduate programs and the production of theses and dissertations, it is discussed the need for research in education to have greater theoretical and methodological rigor and to analyze policy from a more complex perspective. Methodologically, based on literature focused on educational research and experience over 15 years of orientation to research projects that chose educational management as a central research topic, we sought to systematize a contribution to research in education to address the micro and macro, determinants of school reality.
