In this article, I propose to problematize the borders of the public university, the circulation of academic knowledge and the intervention in the media of academics, starting from revising the notion of public intellectual. For this I will identify the transformations produced in the academic profession and in the media system, recognizing its convergent elements. Recovering the results of a research on academic biographies of figures in the humanities field, the social sciences of the University of Buenos Aires, I will stop at the analysis of the journalistic production of the rural sociologist Norma Giarracca. Will allows delving into the forms, styles and dilemmas of the public transmission of knowledge produced in social science research.
