We understand the training and professional development that it provides as a first-rate social and political issue in the field of education, which is getting worse nowadays. The discussion of these aspects is configured as an important strategy in the search for improvements in education and teacher training and professional practices. This article presents some reflections on continuing education, focusing on the realities of two countries, Brazil and Portugal that, disregarding the distances that separate them, bring proximity and singularities that mobilize new learning and dialogues, in the challenge of thinking about formation and teaching professional development. It is the result of the meeting of two educators, one Brazilian and the other Portuguese, who in their academic career had the opportunity to unite their interests and questions in a research project. In line with the most recent discussions that have been taking place in the field of teacher education, with this text we intend to broaden the debates and incite new questions taking as reference the educational realities of these two countries.
