Abstract

This work brings together a set of empirical research developed in the field of educational evaluation. The study aimed to present a systematic review of the literature on the mapping of scientific production on empirical research related to school performance assessment systems in Brazilian states. For this purpose, the PRISMA method and bibliometric analysis were used. Thirty articles published in the CAPES Journal Portal and SciELO in the period between 1996 and 2022 were selected and examined. From this sample, it was possible to create 6 categories: educational public policies, extra and intra-school factors, school effectiveness, educational indicators, educational accountability and data envelopment analysis; which were organized according to the theme, objective and result of empirical research related to state evaluation systems. The results of the study demonstrated that the selection criteria adopted made it possible to identify the most relevant studies for the field of educational evaluation. It concludes by emphasizing the need for studies that provide subsidies for the formulation, reformulation and monitoring of state evaluation policies and their application in measuring the academic performance of students and the teaching network, with a view to improving school education.
