Abstract

BITTENCOURT, Bethânia. Democracy in brazilian public schools: theoretical assumptions. Eccos Rev. Cient. [online]. 2025, n.73, e27245.  Epub Oct 07, 2025. ISSN 1983-9278.  https://doi.org/10.5585/2025.27245.

This article, of a qualitative and theoretical nature, aims to discuss public school democracy in Brazil, based on the dimensions of democratic management proposed by Lima (2014), unfolded from the perspective of spaces and processes of democratic management (Bittencourt, 2023), under the understanding of a pluralistic democratic society (Mouffe, 2015), in which antagonisms and conflicts are irremediable. It is understood that the public school does not merely reproduce events occurring around it. Therefore, it can engage in a dynamic interaction with democratic society, characterized by rotational rather than cyclical movements and avoiding feedback deviations, affirming its integral and fundamental role within this society.

Keywords : democracy; democratic management; public school; school management.
