FERNANDEZ GUERRERO, olaya et al. Childhood's rights and the role of families in their protection: ethical and legal perspective. child.philo [online]. 2023, vol.19, 74230.  Epub 09-Set-2023. ISSN 1984-5987.  https://doi.org/10.12957/childphilo.2023.74230.

Children's rights are a recent creation, and the first attempts to recognize and regulate them did not appear until the 20th century. In addition to reviewing the legal texts that formulate and protect these rights worldwide, this study promotes a philosophical reading of children's rights and the role of families regarding those rights. Ethics of care provides a useful framework to reflect on the ethical responsibility that parents and society in general have towards children, who are the most vulnerable members of society and those who suffer the worst consequences of poverty, migration, or natural disasters. This study carries out a critical review of children's rights and examines the main attempts to legally recognize and guarantee these rights at the international level. It also explores the current situation of children worldwide, emphasizing the negative consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on this vulnerable group of population. Finally, Ethics of care perspective is applied to analyse the responsibilities of families and the role of institutions and society in general towards the protection of children.
