This paper discusses concepts of modernity and post modernity, basis on scholars such as Habermas, Chaui, Bauman, Oliveira, Boff, and others, so as to to understand how their thought impact contemporary society, particularly with regard to the changes in social values and, in particular, to how those changes interfere with education. This new reality disrupts the educational process, making the family and institutional strategies to be crucial in inserting the pupil into the global process. Even in postmodernity, which denies the existence of anything universal, as argued by Daniel, you can find positive references within the educational system, such the as respect for diversity and the equalness for all human beings, tolerance and respect for the freedom of others, creativity, emotion, as well as for intuition. Understanding the new times, education can not give up its role in adapting itself to the needs of teaching, using an humanizing ethics; making the relations less competitive and more human; causing people to be better prepared for the workplace, with skills and abilities to create and find ways of realization.
