Resumen

UHMANN, Rosangela Inês Matos  y  CONTE, Isaura Isabel. Aprender e ensinar química para quê?. Educação. Santa Maria [online]. 2011, vol.36, n.02, pp.265-278. ISSN 1984-6444.

This article reflects upon the school learning of chemistry and its meaning for for day-to-day applications. Common sense poises that such learning is less contributive to people who are not directly related to this area. Methodologically, the analysis and reflections are from the daily practice in a chemistry classroom, and also from the insertion of Peasant Women’s Movement (PWM-RS) as well as the function in popular education. The data presented derives from observation as well from written registers in field journals, from the school evaluative process, to classroom practice and within the popular Movement, especially in women’s meetings. As a result, we argue for a necessary individual and group commitment to the school and other educational spaces beyond it in order to re-connect theory and practice in teaching. In relation to the conclusions, it is possible to affirm that chemistry has been more outside than inside the formula of books, but this does not means that it has been excluded from school. It is necessary to visualize chemistry in a wider context and expand its connection with students’ life and context.
