The aim of this paper is to present the discussions of work and education in Brazil and to analyze their interaction with the production in the field of physical education. The study place a state of the art of studies about work of the physical education teacher. Such studies are mediated by the discussion of the fields, and it is possible to identify two broad lines, the school and non-school fields. In studies of non-school fields, there is a predominance of gyms, investigating corporate management and the work of the teacher. The studies about school refers primarily to the work of teaching physical education. The important contribution of these studies is the understanding of the purpose of the physical education teacher in a concrete totality.
