Abstract

BANDERA, Nicolau Dela. The magic of the admission test: the production of belief in "gift" among the students of the IFSP. Educação. Santa Maria [online]. 2015, vol.40, n.3, pp.643-654. ISSN 1984-6444.  https://doi.org/10.5902/1984644417104.

This paper analyses the subjective and symbolic effects produced among the admitted students by one of the most competitive admission tests in São Paulo: the vestibulinho for accessing to the Escola Técnica Federal. One of the effects of the vestibulinho, defined by Pierre Bourdieu as a rite of institution, refers to the production of a sense of election that confirms the belief in the "gift" and justifies social inequalities. The students selected by the admission test of Federal cultivated a self-image as members of a group of excellence, with a "group charisma" grounded in the academic merit. The research methodology consists of 21 semi-structured interviews with students, chosen from the results of a survey applied with all students of the third year of the school (total of 257).
